I’ve supported Arsenal for 30 years — Dangote

Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote has insisted his interest in buying Arsenal is not ‘overnight stuff’ and revealed he has been a fan of the club for more than 30 years thanks to former vice-chairman David Dein.
Dangote, who is the 67th wealthiest person in the world with a fortune of £12billion, has explained his interest in The Gunners by explaining he was first taken to the club’s former Highbury ground by Dein, a close friend and associate.
Dein, a former sugar trader, helped Dangote start his business in 1980. Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc now accounts for 90 per cent of the product sold in Nigeria.

Al-Jazeera journalist was arrested in germany

Al-Jazeera says one of its senior journalists has been arrested in Germany at the request of Egypt

Ahmed Mansour, who works for the channel's Arabic-language service, was detained as he tried to board a flight from Berlin to Qatar.
A German police official said Egyptian authorities had issued an international arrest warrant for Mr Mansour.
A court in Egypt's capital Cairo sentenced him to 15 years in prison in absentia last year on torture charges.
Al-Jazeera says the claims made against Mr Mansour, who has dual British and Egyptian citizenship, are absurd and false.
"I am still under arrest at Berlin airport, waiting to be taken before an investigating judge," Mr Mansour, 52, tweeted on Saturday night.
Al-Jazeera reporter that he is expected to remain in custody until Monday when he will go in front of a German judge.
A police spokesman said the arrest was made at 15:20 local time (13:20 GMT).
He added that the Egyptian-issued arrest warrant accused Mr Mansour of committing "several crimes" but he gave no further details.

'Quite ludicrous'

Al-Jazeera said the Egyptian warrant was previously rejected by international police body Interpol as it did not meet its rules.
In a video recorded while detained, Mr Mansour described the incident as a "misunderstanding" and said he hoped it would be resolved quickly.
"It is quite ludicrous that a country like Germany would enforce and support such a request made by a dictatorial regime like the one we have in Egypt," he added.

BPE justifies N929.6m fee for PHCN sale

Director-General, BPE, Mr. Benjamin Dikki
The Federal Government approved N929, 613,188.94 as legal fees for the liquidation of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria in order to transfer liabilities in over 500 court cases from the PHCN to the Nigeria Electricity Liability Management Limited.
The Head of Public Communications, Bureau of Public Enterprises, Mr. Alex Okoh, disclosed this in a statement made available to our correspondent in Abuja on Tuesday.
He also said that another N500m was approved for the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation to enable it to pay overtime to the workers that handled the payment of terminal benefits to the PHCN employees.
Okoh said, “The National Council on Privatisation at its meeting held on Thursday, May 9, 2013 considered and approved the award of a contract to Messrs J. K. Gadzama & Partners as the consultant, legal advisory services for the winding up of PHCN Plc in the sum of N929,613,188.94 only for a period of six months after obtaining a BPP ‘no objection’.
“The Office of Attorney General had earlier objected to the necessity of the procurement, but later withdrew its objection and endorsed the engagement of Messrs J. K. Gadzama & Partners for the legal advisory services vide a letter presented to the NCP ref: HAGF/BPP/2014/Vol.1, dated 17th of September 2014.
“Consequently, the council at its meeting held on April 16, 2015, finally approved that the BPE should immediately proceed to execute the contract with Messrs J. K. Gadzama & Partners as the consultant, legal advisory services for the winding up of PHCN Plc in the sum of N929,613,188.94 based on the ‘no objection’ earlier granted by the BPP.
“The legal consultancy is to novate the over 500 court cases pending against the PHCN to NELMCO and also to provide routes of title to purchasers of the PHCN non-core assets as well as wind down the PHCN among other terms of reference.”
On the payment of N500m to the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, Okoh said it was not for consultancy services but to enable the OAGF to pay for expenses incurred in the process of paying the terminal benefits to the PHCN workers

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has said that President Muham-madu Buhari would extend bailout to states to enable them offset backlog of salaries and liabilities crippling their economic activities across the country.
He made this known yesterday in Makurdi, the state capital, during separate meetings with students and other union leaders from the Benue State University, BSU.buhari-salary
Ortom further revealed that his predecessor, Gabriel Suswam left behind a debt burden of over N90 billion for his administration, contrary to the N9.2 billion debt as claimed by the former governor.
Benue is among the distressed states in the country. Others include Osun, Enugu, Kaduna, Plateau and Imo. Most of the states or their local governments are said to be owing between four to six months salaries of workers amounting to several billions of Naira.
However, according to Ortom, “the list of the debt (left behind by Suswam) include N50 billion incurred from ongoing contracts, N18 billion on certificated contracts, N12 billion on salary arrears and about N10 billion for bonds and bank facilities and loans.”
He stated that the President had agreed to avail the states some lifeline but noted that Benue State government had concluded arrangements to borrow funds to pay one month of the backlog of salary arrears across board and to also ensure the take off of both the executive and legislative arms of government.
He said the decision was prompted by the need to demonstrate to the state work force that he was determined to address their problems and to persuade striking tertiary institu-tion workers to call off their four-months-old strike.
Earlier, President of the BSU Students’ Union Government, Bobby Taver-shima, had lamented that students of the university had been at home for four months but assured that they would not do anything to jeopardize the administration.
Also, a representative of the National Associa-tion of Nigerian Students, NANS, Gideon Obande appealed to Ortom to clear arrears of bursary owed students in order to alleviate their sufferings.
